Overview of A96G148SN – 8-bit Microcontroller (A96G14x series)

The Abov A96G148 is an 8-bit CMOS microcontroller based on an M8051-compatible core running up to 16 MHz. It combines 32 Kbytes of on-chip Flash and 2.5 Kbytes of RAM with a broad set of timers, PWM, analog and serial peripherals to address embedded control applications.

Designed for efficient system integration, the device targets applications that require mixed-signal I/O, multiple timing resources and flexible power options across a wide operating voltage and temperature range.

Key Features

  • Core M8051-compatible 8-bit CISC core with 2 clocks per cycle and a maximum main clock rate supporting 16 MHz operation.
  • Memory 32 Kbytes on-chip FLASH with In-System Programming (ISP) and 30,000-cycle endurance; internal RAM comprising 256 bytes IRAM and 2,304 bytes XRAM (total 2.5 Kbytes).
  • Power and Voltage Wide supply range (1.8 V to 5.5 V) and multiple power-saving modes (STOP, IDLE) for reduced consumption in embedded applications.
  • Timers & PWM Multiple timers including one 8-bit BIT, one 8-bit WDT, one 8-bit T0 and five 16-bit timers (T1–T5); programmable pulse generation and 8-bit PWM support for motor, buzzer and actuator control.
  • Analog 12-bit A/D converter with up to 16 input channels for accurate sensor interfacing and data acquisition.
  • Serial Interfaces Flexible serial options including USI (configurable for USART/SPI/I2C) and multiple USART channels for robust communication and peripheral expansion.
  • System Reliability On-chip Power-On Reset (POR), Low Voltage Reset (LVR) with multiple detect levels and Low Voltage Indicator (LVI) for reliable startup and runtime protection.
  • Watchdog & Watch Timer Integrated Watchdog Timer and Watch Timer with selectable intervals to support system supervision and fail-safe recovery.
  • On-chip Oscillator Internal and external oscillator options supported; internal RC and sub-clock options present for flexible clocking strategies.
  • I/O and Package Up to 42 I/O pins with high-current drive options; supplied in a 44-LQFP 10×10 mm package. Operating temperature range −40 to +85 °C.

Typical Applications

  • Home Appliances Control of user interfaces, timers and actuators with integrated ADC for sensor feedback and PWM for motor or buzzer drive.
  • Consumer Electronics Low-power embedded control and peripheral management where mixed-signal I/O and compact Flash/RAM resources are needed.
  • Industrial Control Sensor interfacing and timing-critical control tasks using multiple timers, watchdog supervision and wide operating voltage/temperature ranges.
  • Instrument & Measurement Data acquisition and signal conditioning leveraging the 12-bit ADC and multiple serial interfaces for data output and integration.

Unique Advantages

  • Highly integrated peripherals: A broad set of timers, PWM channels, ADC inputs and serial interfaces reduces external component count and simplifies BOM.
  • Flexible memory and in-field updates: 32 Kbytes of Flash with ISP enables in-system firmware updates and long-term product maintainability.
  • Wide supply and temperature range: Operates from 1.8 V to 5.5 V and across −40 °C to +85 °C, supporting designs that require robustness across varied environments.
  • Reliable startup and runtime protection: POR, multi-level LVR/LVI and integrated watchdog/watch timer support safer and more predictable system behavior.
  • Multiple serial modes: USI and USART options provide flexible connectivity (USART, SPI, I2C) for sensors, displays and external peripherals.
