Overview of ATSAMA5D29-CNR – IC MPU SAMA5D2 500MHZ 289-LFBGA

The ATSAMA5D29-CNR is an ARM® Cortex®-A5 based embedded microprocessor running up to 500 MHz in a 289-LFBGA (14×14) package. It combines a single 32-bit core with multimedia extensions and a broad set of connectivity and security features for embedded and industrial applications.

Designed for secure IoT, human‑machine interfaces and industrial control, the device emphasizes integration, low-power operation and on-chip acceleration for multimedia and cryptography to simplify system design and improve performance-per-watt.

Key Features

  • Core and Performance  ARM® Cortex®-A5 single 32-bit core at up to 500 MHz with NEON™ MPE multimedia coprocessor and floating point support for accelerated signal and multimedia processing.
  • Memory and Cache  Supports DDR2, DDR3, DDR3L, LPDDR, LPDDR2 and LPDDR3 memory controllers. Configurable 128‑Kbyte L2 cache and support for multiple Flash types (QSPI, e.MMC, parallel NAND with ECC) are provided.
  • Multimedia and Graphics  Integrated graphics acceleration with an LCD/TFT controller and touchscreen support plus an image sensor controller and audio interfaces (I2S, SSC, stereo Class D amplifier, digital microphone) for rich user interfaces.
  • Connectivity  On-chip 10/100 Mbps Ethernet (1), multiple USB ports including HSIC, two QSPI controllers, SDIO/SD/e.MMC interfaces, CAN-FD, UARTs, SPIs, FLEXCOMs and TWI/I2C for extensive I/O options.
  • Security and Safe Boot  Hardware security set including AES, SHA, TDES, TRNG, ARM TrustZone®, Secure JTAG, secure memory and boot security with Integrity Check Monitor and support for encrypted code execution.
  • DMA and Event System  Internal multilayer bus with DMA support (including 2×16 channels and dedicated DMAs) plus an event system that lets peripherals interact without processor intervention.
  • Low-Power Modes  Multiple software-selectable low-power modes: Idle, Ultra-Low-Power (two levels) and Backup with RTC and optional DDR self-refresh to minimize standby power.
  • Package and Environmental  289‑LFBGA (14×14) surface-mount package with operating temperature range of −40°C to 105°C; RoHS compliant.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial Control  Secure processing and connectivity for embedded controllers, leveraging the industrial grade package and broad I/O set.
  • Human–Machine Interfaces (HMI)  LCD/TFT, touchscreen, graphics acceleration and audio support enable responsive operator displays and multimedia GUIs.
  • Secure IoT Gateways and Edge Devices  On-chip cryptographic engines, TrustZone and secure boot capabilities support device authentication, data protection and secure communications.
  • Imaging and Audio Processing  NEON multimedia engine, FPU and an image sensor controller provide on-board acceleration for vision and audio capture tasks.

Unique Advantages
