Established in 1995, American Bright LED has become one of the world’s leading LED suppliers. With over 25 years of experience, they manufacture one of the industry’s largest selections of AC LED modules,
DC LED modules, high power LEDs, SMT chips, EzyLEDs, UV LEDs, PLCCs, LED lamps, infrared LEDs, and flexible rope lighting. Their designs and products span across across the visible and invisible light spectrum to provide their customers with top-quality offerings and excellent customer service. Keep reading to learn more about what LEDs are, what an AC or DC LED module is, and what makes them beneficial for your builds.
Light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, are a type of semiconductor that emit light when they have current flowing through them. Electrons and holes in the semiconductor recombine with each other, creating energy that gets released as photons. The wavelength of the light is determined by the bandgap of the semiconductor which in turn determines the color we see released. LEDs have been used for decades for many different jobs in many types of devices, including alarm clocks, remote controls, appliances, streetlights, and LCD TVs.
Using LEDS as lighting has many benefits over the traditional lighting sources like light bulbs. To start with, LEDs are already much more durable than your ordinary light bulb. A light bulb will use filaments and electricity to create light but these filaments can break or blow out, especially if bumped or moved. LEDs do not use filaments, making them more resistant and reliable, even being able to be used in portable applications. Another benefit of LEDs is that they emit very little heat, especially when compared to traditional lights. Incandescent bulbs depend on heat to provide light, meaning around 90% of that energy they produce is released as heat. LEDs on the other hand do not need to produce heat for lighting and are a much safer option, especially in terms of fire safety.
The two major benefits of using LED lights are their energy efficiency and long lifespan. LEDs use at least 75% and up to 90% less energy than traditional incandescent lights. Consuming less energy not only makes them more energy efficient but also helps give LEDs the benefit of having a long useful lifetime. LEDs can last 30 times longer than incandescent bulbs and the average LED lasts for 50,000 hours, with some able to reach 100,000 operating hours or more. Their energy efficiency and longer lifetimes are the main reasons for the big push to using LEDs lights.
An LED module, also called an LED array or LED assembly, is a self-contained device that consists of one or more diodes arranged on a board. These boards can come in different shapes, such as circular, rectangular, and linear. LED modules can be powered by either AC or DC current and either function on their own or must be plugged into a device that powers the module. These modules, just like the LEDs they’re made from, have been traditionally used for general lighting applications however, since they can be customized, they can be used in special applications such as industrial automation, automotive, horticultural, and UV to name a few.
American Bright offers customers both custom and standard AC and DC LED modules. Their DC modules come in a linear shape while their AC modules are available in three different shapes: square, circular, and linear. Their DC modules have a wide color temperature (CCT) range and an aluminum-core PCB that helps with thermal dissipation and provides long-term reliability. DC modules can be daisy-chained together with wires or connectors and both open and closed frame drivers are available. They can also be paired with a PWM dimmer where the duty cycle you set dims the LEDs.
AC modules utilize American Bright’s patented driving scheme, SimpleDrive®, to provide customers with a simpler and more reliable solution for their lighting needs. Their Ingeni-AC™ offer high-efficiency lighting, uniformity, and configurability all within an all solid state, dimmable package. They are also environmentally friendly, RoHS compliant and have completed the 6,000-hour LM-80 test.
