In science and engineering, the weight of a given object is the force acting on an object due to gravity. In retrospect, weight is seen as force exerted by Earth or another planet on an object. In everyday life, weight is more commonly refers to the mass of an object. Since Earth’s gravitational force almost always constant, weight and mass are used interchangeably. Weight, however, carries different definitions depending on whether it is referred to as a vector quantity (gravitational force acting on an object) or a scalar quantity (magnitude of the gravitational force).
